Hamburg | June 2026 — Oceanic Environmental Cables GmbH (OEC), Europe’s Out-of-Service subsea cable recovery and recycling company, is pleased to announce a new partnership with PK Porthcurno, Museum of Global Communications.
Through this partnership, OEC joins the newly launched PK Network, a dedicated consortium of industry experts committed to protecting and supporting the future of global communications heritage.
PK Porthcurno, Museum of Global Communications, preserves a historically significant site in southwest Cornwall that was defined by the landing of the first subsea telegraph cable in 1870. Today, the museum maintains internationally recognised collections that document the evolution of global communications technologies and the people behind them. Through exhibitions, archives, and learning programmes, PK Porthcurno connects landmark engineering achievements with today’s global communications landscape.
This partnership highlights the transition of subsea technology from its initial historical deployment to its sustainable recovery, ensuring a responsible future for the history of global connectivity. As part of this commitment, OEC will contribute technical cable samples recovered from the seabed to the museum’s permanent collection, transforming modern recovery missions into a living archive for the public to experience.
“We are honoured to join the PK Network and align ourselves with an institution that holds the soul of our industry’s history,” said Horst Brockmueller, CEO of OEC. “OEC is proud to support the museum’s mission. We look forward to working together with PK Porthcurno in the years ahead to tell the full story of the subsea cable — from its initial deployment to its sustainable recovery.”
