Some of the OEC team made their way to London last week for a fantastic Submarine Networks EMEA Plenary conference. Always good to get updates in the telecoms subsea industry and catch up with friends old and new. 

Many thanks to Nicole Starosielski who heads up Sustainable Subsea Networks and Kristian Nielsen Kristian Nielsen from Subtel forum for inviting us to be part of the panel discussion: ‘Clean Green Submarine’ as well as Total Telecom for hosting the event. 

The panel including our CEO Horst Brockmueller focussed on some of the metrics that could be used to measure sustainability in the submarine cable industry, and Oceanic Environmental Cables GmbH described for the first time just how big the carbon saving can be when reusing these secondary raw materials vs virgin raw materials by using our innovative recycling methods and recovery techniques. 

People are starting to ask internally; ‘What is the carbon footprint or GHG emissions of our operations, and the entire value chain?’ The industry as a whole is getting closer and closer to valuing the equity of the 3 Ps equally on the balance sheet.
